What is UK travel cover?

UK travel cover provides customers with insurance when they go abroad and comes in many different forms. Everyone who leaves the UK should have some form of travel insurance, and with travel cover offered on a trip by trip basis, over an entire year, or for more specialist holidays like winter sports ones, there is a travel cover policy for everyone.

One of the biggest mistakes people make when going on holiday is underestimating the level of trouble they can get themselves in financially if they don’t have the right insurance policies in place. In the UK, if we miss a train, or bus, it’s usually quite simple to get the next one. If we get injured, or fall ill we go to the hospital, or the doctors and the taxes we pay provide the NHS, which is free to us.

As soon as we leave the UK, things start to get more complicated, and cancelled or severely delayed trains, planes and buses can start to have huge implications of the amount of time we get to spend on holiday, or the amount of time it takes to get home, and health care often stops being offered for free, quite rightly as we don’t contribute to the tax system of the country we are visiting.

That is why we need UK travel cover. It provides us with insurance financially that will look after any health visits, pay compensation when we lose time on our holiday, or miss a day of work at home because flights were delayed or cancelled, and insures our luggage and belongings against theft.

What sort of UK travel cover should I take?

UK travel cover, as mentioned above, comes in many different forms. If you are going on a general beach holiday, or city break, then standard UK travel cover will be sufficient for your trip. As a rule, it is suggested that single trip UK travel cover is cheapest for those going away once in the year, while annual UK travel cover will be cheaper for those who go away two or more times in a year.

You can get worldwide UK travel cover if you are going to faraway shores, or just European UK travel cover, which is a bit cheaper, if you are just visiting Europe. For those who are going on winter sports holidays, the more comprehensive ski insurance packages may suit you better.
