Your wedding is the biggest day of your life, and as such, if something goes wrong all that money and hard work you put into planning and organising it can all go to waste. Wedding insurance covers the costs of damage to hired outfits, wedding dress cover, and protection if the hotel or venue goes out of business and even cover if, for whatever reason, the day is cancelled.
This is all baffling enough when it’s in the UK, but with the growing popularity of tying the knot abroad- Katy Perry and comedian Russell Brand were recently married in India- there comes the extra need for insurance to help you if something happens. If the cake goes missing, the suits and dress aren’t delivered on time and if flights are cancelled it can mean guests not getting there on time and the whole day being a shambles. Some companies will even help you with the costs of changing the day if the Bride or Groom (or even a close relative with some policies) falls ill on the big day. You can also have the cars and guests insured against accidents.
The main differences between normal wedding insurance and that of insurance for weddings overseas is that you need to take out all the travel insurance extras that you would do for a normal holiday. Most companies who do wedding insurance make their policies work either in the UK or abroad, so you will need to take out the extra travel insurance yourself, or ask your insurance provider if they offer a deal that combines them. Wedding insurance can be as little as £15 and with weddings now averaging out at about £21,000 the extra insurance is something you should really consider not only for protecting your big day, but also for protecting the money you’ve invested in it. Though it’s traditional for the father of the Bride to pay, we’re sure he wouldn’t look too kindly on having to pay all the expenses if something went wrong- this makes insurance so very important for everyone involved!
